We are all guilty of forgetting to brush our teeth before bed now and again, or even brushing and then having a snack. Either way doing this can be really bad for your teeth and gums. Brushing before bed is said by many dentists to be just as and, in some cases, more important than brushing when you wake up.
The time that you are asleep is the time when oral bacteria thrives the most. It goes completely undisturbed for hours. As soon as you finish brushing your teeth at any time of day, a small amount of bacteria remains in the mouth and immediately begins regrowth.
Not only that but brushing twice a day considerably reduces 'morning breath' and bad breath over all. Look at it this way, if you didn't put leftovers in the fridge and left them out in the kitchen over night, they are going to smell considerably worse. However your mouth has far more active bacteria than your kitchen (I should hope!)
One of the biggest factors that should encourage you to brush at least twice a day is money. Yes, you will be spending twice as much on tooth paste, but that's nothing in comparison to how much you'll save on your dental bills. Expect far less trips to your dentist if you're taking better care of your teeth. Not brushing at night is a cavity waiting to happen.
