First Aid Courses Coming Up with Action Training

In the coming weeks Action Training have a couple of first aid training courses being hosted in Warrington that you can book onto. Action Training are hosting First Aid at Work Refresher and Paediatric First Aid. Both of these courses are being hosted towards the end of June.

First Aid at Work Refresher
June 20th & 21st

This course is for students that have volunteered to be a nominated First Aider within the work place and currently hold a first aid at work certificate. (Evidence of this must be provided on the course)
This course will suit any member of staff within the work place.

A First Aider will have:

  • Good reliability, disposition and communication skills
  • An aptitude and ability to absorb new skills and knowledge
  • An ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures
  • Normal duties in the workplace that can be left, to respond immediately and rapidly to an emergency.

There is a maximum of 12 places available.
Course Times: 09.30 – 16.30.
Validation of Certification: 3 years.
Course Duration: 2 full days.

Having completed this course, the participants will have an understanding and knowledge of many things needed to be a First Aider, including:
  • provide emergency first aid at work
  • administer first aid to a casualty with:
    • injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
    • chest injuries;
    • burns and scalds;
    • eye injuries;
    • sudden poisoning;
    • anaphylactic shock;
  • the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Assessment
The final assessment will determine a student’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and to deal with a casualty who:
  • Is unconscious;
  • Requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • Is wounded and bleeding.
There is also a short Multi Choice Paper with a pass mark.

All those who attend will receive a course book and when the course has been completed they will receive a certificate. 


June 22nd & 23rd

The training course is designed for workers caring for children in the absence of their parents. The training is for all staff involved in the care or teaching of children, for example midday assistants, class room assistants, teachers, childminders, carers, nannies and after school members of staff.
The information will be relevant for the immediate care of:
  • New born to 12 months
  • 1 year to 8 years of age
  • 8 years and over
There is a maximum of 12 places available.
Validation of Certification: 3 years.
Course Duration: 12 hours.

Having completed the course the participants will have knowledge and an understanding of many things needed to administer first aid on children. These topics include:

  • Appropriate contents of a first aid box for babies and children
  • Planning for first aid emergencies involving babies and children
  • Dealing with emergencies involving babies and children
  • Resuscitating babies and children
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to anaphylactic shock in babies and children
  • Responding appropriately to choking in babies and children.
  • Responding appropriately to head, neck and back injuries in babies and children
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to cases of poisoning in babies and children
  • Responding appropriately to febrile convulsions in babies and young children.
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of babies and children with chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia, diabetes.
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to meningitis and other serious sudden illnesses
All students will receive a course book and once the course is completed they will also receive a certificate.
