Protect your home | Crime Prevenation Tips from Uniqwin

Having your home burgled is a horrible experience, it can result in large financial costs and emotional devastation.

It's no surprise that burglars target urban areas as there is less chance of getting caught but also the more wealthier areas because that's where the money is. So the question is, is anyone safe from burglars? Well everybody is a target but you can reduce your risk by carrying out a range of measures and precautions, here we have put together a guide to follow so you can feel more safe in your home:

Lights - Put timers on your lights so when you're not home it looks like somebody is in. Lights, the television or radio will scare off burglars. Also having extra flood lights installed in your garden is a great way to deter intruders.

Car Keys- Don't leave your car keys in full view of your neighbourhood. Burglars will roam up and down looking for the right house to target and you leaving your keys in the window will give them an easy ride.

Windows and locks - Check all windows and doors to make sure they are fully secure. If you feel your door could be busted open with a power kick, then it can be! If you can double lock your doors and windows great, if not use extra locks to protect them further.

Intruder alarms - Always set your alarm before you leave and make sure it is working. If you haven't got an alarm you should consider one, or a off-site monitored alarm which are surprisingly cheap these days and can be monitored for less then 50p a day.

Valuables - Do not leave your valuables in full view, again burglars look for easy targets and what they can steal. Leaving your valuables in the window gives them a heads up you have money and there is something worth robbing. Keep them in a safe or secured box hidden away.

Curtains - Close your curtains in the evening so the burglars cant see what you have.

Telephone answer machine - If you have a message on your answer phone implying you are out, again its an easy ride for the burglars. Amend your message to imply you are in but busy and unable to answer the phone.

We hope at Uniqwin these tips have been useful to you, however if you require any further measures we are able to provide a range of domestic security services. Please visit www.uniqwin.co.uk
