Benefits of painting in the winter

Palatine Paints provide a wide range of paints for all types of uses, whether it's for home use or for industrial & agricultural there is something to suit everyone. Now that summer is over, it's seems like a good time to outline the benefits of painting items in the winter now we're subject to a temperature change, especially if you're hoping to do up interior spaces. Whilst it is generally accepted that exterior painting is best left for the warmer months, here are some facts about interior winter painting:
  • It's much less hassle to hire a contractor. Because so many people tend to hire them in the summer to work on exterior projects because it stays lighter for longer - contractors will have no problem working inside a property from 9-5.
  • Fumes from paint will be less problematic. When the weather is sticky and humid, dangerous and unpleasant fumes from the paint are much, much more prevalent. Not so much in the winter when an open window is bringing cool, fresh air  into your home.
  • Winter weather makes the job easier: Another negative aspect of humidity is that it means that paint takes longer to dry which will hold up and have a long lasting negative effect on your other projects.
  • You'll have more time to enjoy the summer. If you have the interior painting sorted in your home when it comes to the summer you'll be able to aim exclusively on projects like decking and fence painting.

Palatine Paints | Painting Tips For Home

Palatine are paint manufacturers and suppliers that have extensive experience in the industry (65 years), offering a wide selection of outstanding products both home manufactured and from the top quality brands that you're familiar with. Everything from equipment to primers, industrial floor paint, undercoats, overcoats, barn paints and so much more.

If you're unsure about what makes the best painting project, we've compiled this handy list of tips that will ensure that your project looks fantastic - whatever it may be. Whether it's DIY at home or industrial projects and agricultural barn conversions then Palatine has something for all requirements.

1) The best results are only possible with the best preparation. It's important that the surface you're painting on is as smooth as possible, this ensures that the application of the paint has very few imperfections. Sandpaper is very cheap and will prove important in removing any bumps and rough patches.

2) Tinted primer for better results. Without primer paint applied prior to the actual paint, you'll often get dull looking walls because the joint compound sucks the moisture from the paint. If you use primer paint that is similar to the original, you won't need to worry about this.

3) Struggling to paint over textured surfaces? Even the pro's do. If you're trying (and fighting!) to get a straight line on your textured wall, simply create a small ridge with a screwdriver by running it down in a straight line. Then the bristles of your brush will be able to stop at a certain point.

4) Protect your floor. It's fair to say that the majority of people simply use bedsheets to protect their floor when decorating walls, it seems like the most logical solution but it isn't the most effective. Bed sheets are not very good at stopping spilt paint from going through the fabric. Canvas drop cloths are far more effective.

5) Avoid running. By pushing the paint slowly across corners and trips you'll avoid the paint dripping onto other items.
