The Season of Asparagus

What a lovely week it has been, nothing but summer sunshine, blue skies and ice lollies and what a way to end the week with a huge welcome to the UK season of Asparagus. This delicious vegetable is now available from The Lemon Tree who have sourced their asparagus from local and regional suppliers across the UK to give you the best taste and highest quality. Sometimes when vegetables are transported internationally they can lose their freshness and quality so The Lemon Tree ensure they always get the best quality for you.

Asparagus are a sign of Spring and this supper tasty, sweet yet tender vegetable is perfect choice of veg to compliment so many meals and also a great ingredient for many recipes. There are also so man ways to cook asparagus, you can grill it, steam it, boil it, braise it, blend it for a soup or chop it up and put it on a salad, raw and fresh.

Here are my top 3 recipes for Asparagus:

1) Grilled Asparagus

Grilled Asparagus is delicious, and best served as a side dish with another main meal. This adds a crispy, sweet and tender addition to whatever meal you are preparing and its so easy to make. Coat in oil prior to grilling and season with salt and pepper and a splash of lemon juice. Grill for 5-8 minutes and turn occasionally so all sides are cooked. Once cooked you can finish by drizzling any remaining oil and lemon juice.

2) Asparagus and Ramp Soup with Yogurt

This is the perfect tasty dish which uses two of Springs best vegetables, Asparagus and Ramp. For this soup you can choose either thin or thick Asparagus stalks. You blanch the asparagus stalks first and then saute the ramps before putting them into the blender to create your creamy soup. To view the full recipe of this soup please click here.

3) Braised Asparagus

Braising your Asparagus brings out the bets flavours in this vegetable. Begin by coating them in a little bit of oil and then deglaze your pan with stock/water and butter and then cook. Your end result will be lovely tender asparagus in a tasty butter sauce, perfect combination to any meal.

The Lemon Tree Produce can provide your business with wholesale asparagus that has been picked fresh from local and regional suppliers, giving you the best quality. They can also supply your professional foot business, outlet or venue with wholesale produce including fruit, veg, dairy, salads, mushrooms, herbs and prepared produce.

Fresh Year...Fresh Menu!

Probably everybody I know has healthy eating on their list of new years resolutions and many of us will probably stick to it after over indulging throughout the Christmas period.

Even though we are looking to change our lifestyles we still like to eat out and dine in nice restaurants. With the majority of people wanting to start the new year off by being more healthy and eating fresh it may be the time to change your menu to be more accommodating?

If your menu is mainly burgers, pub food, steaks etc why not add a section of salads, freshly made sandwiches and homemade soups? I personally would find this delightful and it would certainty stop me from choosing the burger!

Blood Oranges coming soon to Lemon Tree Produce

As a premier supplier for wholesale produce, Lemon Tree Produce supply a huge variety of fruit, veg and dairy to hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes, schools, and other food outlets. They are recognised for providing outstanding quality and service, so if you need a trustworthy and reliable supplier use Lemon Tree, they will not disappoint!

Now with a huge range of wholesale fruit and veg, Lemon Tree Produce are continually sourcing new products to add to their list and to ensure the highest quality and range is always available they source from local, regional and international suppliers.

We would like to advertise on behalf of Lemon Tree Produce their new products including Blood Oranges which are super tasty compared to your standard orange. The reason for their unique name is the colour, which is almost blood or flesh like caused by anthocyanins which are found in many flowers but rarely found in citrus fruit.

There are 3 common types of blood orange, the Tarocco, the Sanguinello and the Moro, while other less common blood oranges include Maltese, Khanpur, Ruby Blood, Red Valencia, Vaccaro blood orange and more.

It has not yet been defined where blood oranges originated but many speculations point as China and the Mediterranean as facts state they have been growing in these locations with the 18th century. To achieve the attractive blood colour from the anthocyanins the oranges must be developed in low temperatures during the night.

These little beauties in-fact contain more antioxidants compared to normal oranges because of their blood red pigments and taste even more delicious with an almost raspberry like taste. You may find some to be tarty and others sweet, however the characteristics make a fine choice for making marmalade and the zest and also be used for baking. Another popular dish would be a Sicilian salad which contains blood oranges, bulb fennel and olive oil. You will also find blood oranges in Italian sorbet, gelato and vinaigrette dressings.

If you're thinking about spicing up your menu with some additional, delicious flavour try these mouthwatering beauties. For more wholesale fruit and veg please visit www.lemontreeproduce.com or contact them on 01519314137. Lemon Tree produce can distribute to customers across Liverpool, Crosby, Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and the North West.
